This is my rough draft for the Personal Memoir assignment in my 2000 level Creative Nonfiction composition course. Tomorrow I'll post the final draft so you can see the improvement after several long stints of editing.

Sunglasses are an absolutely essential piece of mountain bike gear, but they are often overlooked, or at least misunderstood. With prices ranging from $15 at your local convenience store to well over $200 for a pair of name-brand shades, it can be difficult to decide what you really need in a pair of sunglasses.

As you can probably tell from the title, the purpose of this essay was a literary analysis of Flannery O'Connor's "Good Country People." I wrote this for my English 1102 composition class back on February 8, 2010.

As you can see from the scans below, my prof left a lot of marks showing where I made some sort of errors. Amazingly, I still managed to get an A- (92) on this paper, with the concluding comment of "very original but it's not fully developed."

Actually, this ended up being the worst essay I wrote for this class. Unfortunately, I didn't have the foresight to save any of my other essays, so I won't be able to share them with you. I did earn grades in the upper 90's on several of the later ones, so I definitely improved over the span of the course.

The following is a paper that I wrote for my 1101 composition class all the way back in 2009. Actually, the date on the essay is my birthday: November 10th... that's cool, and pretty random!

The assignment was to write an analysis of Jon Krakauer's Into the Wild.

My professor's concluding comments read: "One of the best essays I have read on Into the Wild: unique and thoughtful analysis!" And with a grade of 98, I've gotta say that I was really happy with this essay!

Finally: the final draft of my place description essay entitled "Creating Home in the Harshest of Places." I posted a rough (very rough) draft yesterday, and today you actually get to view the finished product.

I'm very pleased with how it turned out, and pleasantly surprised that I was able to create something this good. Description is not a type of writing I spend a lot of time practicing, so this essay was definitely a great learning experience.

My professor's final comment reads: "Nice Descriptions. A"

A. Yes. I dig it!

I'm somewhat hesitant to post this, but I think I've already opened a dialogue about the writing process in my previous post. Here is the rough draft of my place description essay that I blogged my way through. Look for the final draft tomorrow!
